Aruba scored two goals within seven minutes of the opening whistle and never looked back, defeating the US Virgin Islands, 10-0. Jean-Pierre Van Der Linden tallied the opener and added five more by the 60th minute to finish with six goals, setting a new tournament record for most goals scored by a player in a single match. Leighton Thomas of the Cayman Islands established the previous mark of five against Sint Maarten on August 13. The Arubans improved to 3-0-0 with 20 goals and none conceded. Also in Group A Bahamas faced Sint Maarten The Bahamas got goals from seven different players to beat Sint Maarten, 8-0, for its first win of the CONCACAF Under-15 Championship. Antonio Hanna opened the scoring in the 12th minute and Keegan Bischof made it 2-0 five minutes before half-time. Man of the Match Nicholas Plakaris started a string of six second-half goals nine minutes after the interval. Ethan Willie (62’, 66’) netted during a four-minute span just after the hour mark. The Bahamas had not scored in its previous two tournament outings (4-0 loss v Aruba, 1-0 loss v Bermuda). Later on in Group A Before a standing-room-only crowd, Bermuda won a battle of undefeated teams, topping the host Cayman Islands, 3-0, to join Aruba at the summit of the Group A table. Just when it appeared the first-half would end knotted at 0-0, Oneko Lowe put the Bermudians ahead one minute into stoppage time. Bermuda surfaced from the break in a determined mood and the influential Osagi Bascome made it 2-0 two minutes after the teams re-entered the field. Jai-Zel Smith-DeShields closed the Bermuda goal account in the 42nd minute with his second goal of the competition. The loss dropped the Caymans Islands to 2-0-1, while Bermuda (3-0-0, 9 points) looks forward to Sunday’s challenge against Aruba (3-0-0, 9 points) in a top-of-the-table clash. In Group B Jamaice faced Belize Belize scored two goals early in the first half and went on to defeat Jamaica, 3-1. The result improved the Central American side to 2-0-0, while Jamaica lost for the first time in three games (2-0-1, 6 points). A fifth minute strike from Alvin Sifontes – his second goal of the competition – put Belize up 1-0, a lead that was doubled only two minutes later by Man of the Match Randy Augustine. Mark Samuels completed the impressive victory with a 53rd minute tally. Jourdain Fletcher netted a consolation goal with six minutes in regulation to make it 3-1. The young Reggae Boyz had not conceded a goal in its previous two outings. Also in Group B Guatemala faced St Lucia Esteban Velasquez scored three goals and Guatemala defeated St. Lucia, 5-1. The result left the Guatemalans (2-0-0, +9 GD), Belize (2-0-0, +3 GD) and Jamaica (2-0-1, +4 GD) with a share of first place in Group B on six points each. Jamaica, however, has played one more game. After topping Grenada 5-0 the evening before, Guatemala turned in an equally impressive performance against St. Lucia, which had conceded only three goals in its first two games. Velasquez (5 goals) and Spross Cifuentes (3 goals) have combined to net eight of the Chapines’ 10 goals in the tournament. Second-half substitute Ekiel Greenidge scored St. Lucia’s first goal after 194 minutes of play. Guatemala next meets Belize on Sunday in an encounter that could be pivotal in determining the group winner.
