Aruban swimmers Jordy Groters y Mikel Schreuders will compete at FINA World Junior Swimming Championship


On August 26th The 4th FINA World Junior Swimming Championship 2013  will take place. Last month the World Championships took place in Barcelona where all the elite swimmers competed, Now it's the future swimming stars turn to shine & compete in the prestigious Hamden Sports Complex in Dubai. Hamden Sports Complex was constructed in 2010 & is the biggest aquatic complex in the world with a capacity of 15000 people The FINA World Junior Swimming Championship is organised every 2 years there has been an increase competitors since it's initiation 2006.This year 96 countries with almost 900 swimmers have confirmed their participation in Dubai. Aruba, Like the 3 times in the past, will send it's best junior swimmers to compete at World Championship level. With participation of so many countries with the worlds best swimmer under 18.

Jordy Groters, 17, &  Mikel Schreuders, 14, have the honor of representing our island during this Championship.  Jordy will compete in  50m, 100m & 200m breaststroke , 200m medley & 50m freestyle. Mikel will compete in 100m & 200m breaststroke, 200m y 400m freestyle & 200m & 400m medley. With Youth Olympic Games coming up  in 2014, This championship is good experience for both Jordy & Mikel. For Jordy 2014 will be his last year in junior category.  Mikel will compete be able to compete in 2 years again which makes his participation this year a very important one for his development as a world level athlete. 
Mikel accompanied  by his coach of the Aruban delegation Ismael Santiesteban, will travel to Dubai upcoming Friday from Aruba, this is a very long flight before the competition. Arriving in Dubai Mikel will not have much time to adapt to the time difference &  also the extreme temperatures in Dubai. Jordy traveled to Kuwait last week from USA with his coach & a few other swimmers from the Caribbean to finalize their preparation for Kuwait.  Mikel & Jordy will both start competing upcoming Monday  with 100m breaststroke.
