Athletes from various Taekwondo schools in Aruba participated for their black belt & 5th dan exam.

Athletes from various Taekwondo schools in Aruba participated for their black belt & 5th dan exam. Last Saturday the black belt & 5th dan took place in Princes Christina School gymnasium where Master Eric Barry from San Nicolas Taekwondo Center gives taekwondo lessons.

The athletes who participated for black belt were Tomas Correa, Lionell Fransisca, David Lont, Marwin Lont, Hakeem Lowe. Those who did 5th dan exams were Moices Dumfries & Ray Andrade. The exam committee that guided the exams consisted of Grand Master Chaco Jose Cornelio, Master Augy Tromp, Master Eric Barry & Master Melvin Kelly. During the exams the athletes had to do everything the exam consisted of, among other breaking wooden boards, theory, form, one-steps, self defense with wooden sticks & knives & sparring with one or two people.

The committee was very firm with the punctuation's in the course of these exams, because an athlete who is going for his/her black belt or higher must know and be able to do everything that has to do with taekwondo. All exams on themselves are really hard.

Master Melvin Kelly was one of the examiners and has more than 20 years training Tekwondo he has more than 7 years in the black belt committee. Master Melvin Kelly put a lot of emphasis on technique, especially on the self defense with a knife part. The exam committee will sit together this week to give the exam results.
