Aruban ping pong delegation makes it to the podium in Caribbean Championship.

The Caribbean Table Tennis Championships took place in Georgetown, Guyana  from August 10 to 15 in age categories U11 and U13. ATTA would like to thank Lotto pa Deporte Aruba's Commission Grant who formed part of this championship with the following delegation:Remy de Lange (delegator), Ruddy Raga (coach), Emiliano Mathilda (chaperon), and the following athletes: Donald Yarzagaray, Ethan de Lange, Jean Claude Hoek, Jeandry Mathilda, Robert Dirksen, Johnatan Paredes, Joshua Paredes, Sjoerd Geurtsen and Mikayla Mathilda

The championship started out a little slow for the male team. Nerves took over them and they didn't manage to make it very far. For Mikayla the only female athlete for Aruba, it was a whole other story. Seeing that the Dominican Republic also sent a female athlete, they put together a team consisting of  Aruba, Dominican Republic & Guyana. At the end of the games, this mixed team turned out to be the winner! Unfortunately according to the rules the team has to consist of members from the same country to receive the trophy, so they didn't receive gold.
The following event was mixed doubles Aruba was represented by Johnatan & Mikayla. Unfortunately without result as they lost their first game against Guyana.
After the mixed dobles took place the athletes from both categories managed to make it to the podium.
They won medals in the following categories for category U11 Sjoerd & Johnatan won bronze trophies  & U13 category Jean Claude & Jeandry also won Bronze. In the female category Mikayla teamed up again with the Dominican Republic where they also managed to make it to the podium. The doubles team consisting of Aruba & Dominican Republic managed to win Silver.
In the individual event 7 out of the 9 athletes classified to the Knockout rounds, but unfortunately none of the athletes managed to continue. The kids did a really good job almost all the games were really close ones.
With its delegation of 9 athletes of which 5 of them made their debut on international turf, Aruba Table Tennis is very proud of the results. These athletes showed heart & perseverance but at the same time lake of experience on international level causing them not to show their best.
