Aruba's got new members to the IRONMAN Club

Welcome to the Ironman Club Carlo Mansur, Randy Gomez , Faissal Burroso and
 Marc Ingwersen congrats guys!

The World Half Marathon Championship 2014 route was measured for the first time

The World Half Marathon route was measured for the first time. This first measurement was made on the bike of the technical director of the WHM2014, Lars Nissen, and the Danish Athletic Federation measurer, Peer Jensen and Ole Sprøgel. Measuring the WHM-course through the streets of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. The measurement starts at the large square in front of Christiansborg Castle which is also the start and finish of the WHM2014.

Fast, flat and Scenic

The course is flat and completely free of traffic. Located in the centre of Copenhagen, the surface is asphalt and the width varies from 3 to 20 meters. The course leads the runners through the inner Copenhagen with a digression to uptown Frederiksberg.

Starting in front of the Danish Parliament at Christiansborg Castle, the runners will pass famous sites, scenic areas, canals and parks.

Going uptown to Frederiksberg, the athletes enter the steepest part of the course with a top altitude of 14 meters. Indeed a flat course. As they pass the Frederiksberg Town Hall they turn left onto the beautiful Frederiksberg Avenue lined with flags alongside the entire 900 meters avenue leading the athletes back to the heart of Copenhagen. Soon after, the runners enter the final 2 kilometres where they will first pass the Tivoli Gardens and Copenhagen Town Square before passing the Danish National Museum only to enter the finishing area right in front of Christiansborg Castle.

“The course is good; flat and fast and passes a lot of the attractions of the city. It is an iconic course. There is no doubt in my mind that the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships is going to be a success. The combination of this magnificent European capital and the good work by the Danish organisers will turn the event into a great success,” says David Bedford, IAAF technical representative on his first site visit to Denmark.

The route is subject to change.

Aruban swimmer Jordy Groters commits to Missouri Tigers

The Missouri Tigers men’s breaststroke group is not only that programs best stroke group, it’s becoming one of the best-known men’s breaststroking groups in the country.
That trend looks to continue with the commitment today of Jordy Groters to the Missouri Tigers.
“Mizzou is an amazing place!” Groters said of his future school. “I love the facility and campus. I was very interested in them because of their phenomenal breaststroke success, 4 breaststrokers at NCAA’s alone is amazing. But what really got me was the team atmosphere. I loved the guys on the team and the coaches were awesome. They are very serious and yet at the same time they are very relaxed and it really shows. It was the perfect atmosphere I wanted to be in. I’m really looking forward to joining the amazing breaststroke program they have, and also adding to their sprint freestyle program.”
Groters, who lives in Florida, benefited from that state having such an early state meet. At this year’s 1A Championship, his stock skyrocketed when he won 1A state titles in both the 50 free and 100 breaststroke.
Groters, who swims for University High School, swam a 54.76 in the 100 yard breaststroke and a 20.69 in the 50 yard freestyle (he was as fast as 20.46 in prelims). He also split a 44.3 in the 100 yard free on an anchor for his team’s 3rd-place 400 free relay. His best 200 breaststroke is a 2:04.7 from a mid-season meet in October of 2012, but expect him to be closer to the two-minute mark if he takes a good crack at it the rest of this season.
Given that when recruiting season opened this year, he had much more modest, mid-major type best times of 21.4 and 56.9 in those two events, that state meet was especially significant for him.
Groters, as he mentioned, will join an extremely deep breaststroke group that sent four to last year’s NCAA Championships, and three of them were underclassmen. As a freshman, it’s unlikely that he’ll be able to wrench away medley relay breaststroke spots from Sam Tierney and Igor Kozloskij (both who will be seniors when Groters is a freshman), but he has a very good shot at making an immediate relay impact in the 200 and 400 free relays.
Groters does his club training with the Davie Nadadores in south Florida.

Aruba wins TK5 Cup in Curaçao under guidance of coach Clifford Rasmijn of Brazil Taekwondo Stichting.

Marine Corps Marathon 2013: Lars Stolk finishes in 3:27:41

Washington: On Sunday 27th of October 2013 a group of Marine and Army Veterans parachuted from a fixed wing aircraft carrying American flags while the American National Anthem was being sung to start the 2013 Marine Corps Marathon.

The Marine Corps Marathon nicknamed "The Marathon of Monuments" offered climbs & declines as well as flat surface throughout the 26.2 miles. Representing Aruba and the Dutch Marine Corps was Lars Stolk. Lars finished the marathon in 3:27:41 coming 1250th place of the 23.513 participants. We would say that is a pretty good come back from his recent shoulder injury.

Lars commented:"Been there done that....3:27:41..Tried to get under 3:25 but too bad... It was a tough hilly marathon...My knee and my shoulder both hurt right know, but I made it!

With just one training the last three months...being in a stress period cause of the cancer of mom, my bike accident, I am so happy with my time!!! Thank you Aruba and Holland for your support again!!!! In 2 months I am bringing the medal home to Mom!!!!"

Duck Blabber wishes Lars the best of luck with his training and future races.

Jordy Groters, Patrick Groters & Daniella van den Berg shined at the Suns High School Swimming and Diving Invitational in Florida

Jordy Groters may have been a little jet lagged but showed no signs of letting up Saturday at the Suns High School Swimming and Diving Invitational at Nova Southeastern Aquatic Complex.
Groters, 16, a senior at University School, returned from Peru Thursday night after competing in the five-day South America Youth Games where he won a silver medal and two bronze medals in the 50, 100 and 200 meter breaststroke events for Aruba.
Groters shook off fatigue to win two individual events including the 100-yard butterfly in a lifetime-best. He was also a member of two winning relays to lead the defending champion Suns team to the boys’ and combined team titles.
“This morning when I woke up I was feeling a little ill, I was very tired from the meet and before that I had junior world championships,” Groters said. “In warm-up I felt really bad but I knew I had the weekend to rest so I just gave it my all today.
“I still wanted to try and get good times in as well,” Groters said. “I did not expect to go a best time in my butterfly at all. I was very happy about that, it is the highlight of my meet. I am very pumped and happy to be swimming fast again.”
Groters won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:55.19, nearly nine seconds ahead of Matheus Borgas of Sagemont (2:04.67) and younger brother Patrick Groters, an eighth grader at University School (2:09.27). The two brothers competed side-by side.
“The last time I swam against him was when I was 9 years old,” Groters said with a laugh. “And he beat me in the 50 back in Aruba. I wasn’t going to let him beat me this time.”
Groters won the 100-yard butterfly in a best time 51.98, bettering his previous time of 53.15. It is the fastest time in the county this season.
The Suns won the 200-yard medley relay (1:41.03) with Marco Hosfeld, Jordy Groters, Daniel Pereira and Mathew Lyn and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:29.75) with Lyn, Nicolas Oberndorfer, Patrick Groters and Jordy Groters.
“Everybody has improved and gotten better from last year,” Groters said. “With these times I am pretty sure we can medal at states in the relays and individually. It’s a great team and I love that I am a part of it.”
Groters, a 2016 Olympic hopeful for Aruba, said he would like to be the first swimmer from his country to qualify. No swimmer has earned a spot other than a wild card. “It would be a big honor,” he said. “I am close to the “B” cuts and in three years I think I can do it.”
Groters is being recruited by Louisville, South Carolina, Utah and Florida State.
Sagemont’s Daniella van der Berg, also coming off the South American Youth Games for Aruba where she took a bronze in the 800-meter freestyle, won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.16. Sagemont teammate Nilza Costa won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:03.03.

Jourde Klaber wins Bronze medal in Orlando.

Jourdé Klabér of Brazil Taekwondo Stichting wins Bronze medal in Orlando at the  "Daedo-Truescore 3rd International Open"

Last Saturday in Orlando took place the  "Daedo-Truescore 3rd International Open" and Jourdé Klabér of Brazil Taekwondo Stichting who participated in the Daedo- Truescore 3rd International Open in Orlando fought for his Bronze medal. The week before at the Panamerican Cadet Open in Mexico Jourdé Klabér won a Bronze medal and at the Pan American Open Jourdé Klabér won a Silver medal. It looks like Jourdé Klabér is stuck between Silver and Bronze aU result that might be good for many, but for his coached Albert Klaber & Clifford Rasmijn there is room for improvement.Clifford Rasmijn already started with harder trainings to bring the Gold medal for Aruba.Jourde Klaber was winning 8-7 against Rodrigo Alejandro Escobar Hernandes of Guatemala came to lose the Quarter Final 11-8, Rodrigo Alejandro Escobar Hernandez defeated CT Jean of USA.

The next international championship on the program in the Panama Open and the participation to the championship is being evaluated, seeing that this is going to be the last championship of stature for this year.

Boston Red Sox v.s Baltimore Orioles

Had the Red Sox won Tuesday night at Fenway Park, rather than lost to the Orioles, 3-2, and had the Indians lost, the Sox would have acknowledged making the playoffs but wouldn't have gone crazy.

The Red Sox, whose magic number to clinch the American League East is now 3, ended a three-game winning streak. It was a shocking loss with Koji Uehara allowing the Orioles the go-ahead run in the ninth inning of a 2-2 game. His streak of retiring 37 consecutive batters came to an end, as did his 30.1 inning scoreless streak, when he allowed a Danny Valencia leadoff triple over Shane Victorino's head and off the tip of his glove. Matt Wieters hit a sacrifice fly to right to score pinch runner Alexi Casilla.

One of the most impressive aspects of the game for the Red Sox was Craig Breslow getting out of a second-and-third, nobody-out jam in the eighth. Brandon Workman, who pitched an effective seventh, allowed a single to Nate McLouth and a double to Manny Machado. Enter Breslow. He retired Chris Davis, who earlier had hit his Orioles record-setting 51st home run, on a ground ball to short. The runner at third held. Breslow got the dangerous Adam Jones on another grounder to short, then retired Nick Markakis on a fly ball to center.

The Red Sox got on the board first when Dustin Pedroia hit a leadoff home run in the first inning. It was his 99th career homer, snapping a 176 at-bat homerless drought.
Ryan Dempster didn't factor in the win, but he pitched well over six innings, allowing two runs, four walks, and striking out five. It was his second quality start since the All-Star break. Dempster now has a 2.19 ERA against the Orioles in six career starts.
Stephen Drew stole two bases, his first career multi-steal game. The last Red Sox shortstop to swipe two bases was Julio Lugo Sept. 30, 2007.
The Red Sox went 3 for 3 in steal attempts and have stolen 35 straight, the longest streak since Toronto stole 38 straight in 1993. The Red Sox lead the majors with an 86.2 stolen base percentage.

Xander Bogaerts plays his part in Red Sox victory against the New York Yankees

BOSTON —The Red Sox have played 25 games since Xander Bogaerts was promoted from Triple A Pawtucket Aug. 19. Sunday night’s 9-2 victory over the Yankees was only the ninth he has started. While it may seem unusual for a team to promote a 20-year-old prospect to have a role off the bench, it served two purposes. The addition of Bogaerts to the roster immediately made the Red Sox a better team and it furthers his development in preparation for a bigger role next season.

“It has been a great experience for me,” Bogaerts said. “The opportunity to be around this team means a lot to me. I’m learning things every day.”

Derek Jeter took a momentary pause Sunday night after asking a reporter how old Xander Bogaerts is. "Twenty-years old?" Jeter, 39, said with a smile. "I don't remember when I was 20-years old. I thought he played well. He's swinging the bat pretty good, he's playing great defense. Is he mainly a shortstop?" Another great question. Jeter and Bogaerts are both listed at 6-foot-3, and Bogaerts has faced questions already about just what his long-term position is: shortstop, or is he too tall? The Red Sox fully believe in Bogaerts at shortstop, although that doesn't mean down the road he couldn't switch positions. The rookie looked great at third base again on Sunday, starting for Will Middlebrooks, who has the flu. "There's questions because he's tall?" Jeter said. "Well, if he was short, they'd say there's questions because he's short. There's always questions. But he's been pretty impressive from what I saw. I didn't see him a lot." Jeter heard those height questions himself. "Sometimes," he recalled. "You know, they'd say because we were a little bit taller — and then there was a wave of guys who came up who were pretty tall. He seems like he has a bright future." Jeter's sample size of Bogaerts has indeed been small, but the Yankees captain was a witness to the shot. Jeter was on the field when Bogaerts hit his first major-league home run on Sept. 7, a 443-foot bomb over the left-center field bullpen at Yankee Stadium. It registered as the second-longest homer in the Bronx this season, according to ESPN — falling short of Francisco Cervelli's leading homer by one foot. "First home run, which is something you always remember, to hit over at Yankee Stadium," Jeter said, "I'm sure it's kind of special for him."

PWA Netherlands World Cup: Aruban Windsurfer Sarah-Quita Offringa claims her 6th PWA Freestyle World Championship in a row

The return of the PWA to the Netherlands for the first time in fifteen years proved to be a huge success as Brouwersdam produced a superb blend of conditions for the elite of the freestyle world. Anything from storm force winds combined with heavy rain, to glorious evening light with 20 knots and perfect flat water greeted the competitors over the course of the week. Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / Gaastra / Mystic / Chris Benz / Maui Ultra Fins) proved once again that she is in a world of her own as she emphatically claimed her sixth PWA Freestyle world championship in a row. In the meantime Kiri Thode (Starboard / Gaastra) ended the reigning world champions - Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo (Fanatic / North) - unbeaten record, as the Venezuelan tasted defeat for the first time since 2012 - but more importantly Thode claimed the event victory - his first since 2011 - to blow the title race wide open.

Sarah-Quita Offringa showed exactly why she is considered the Queen of freestyle once again as she stormed to a sixth PWA Freestyle world championship in a row. Offringa showed that she has the skills to worry many of her male counterparts, as she rotated through text-book funnels, explosive konos and superb one-handed spocks. Arrianne Aukes (RRD / Simmer / Maui Ultra Fins) produced an excellent performance in the double elimination as she landed stylish one-handed funnels, perfect flakas and clew-first punetas, however it wasn’t enough to defeat the true Queen of freestyle Sarah-Quita Offringa.
